When Jackson goes outside the plane and Sara said ‘be careful,’ my reaction was the same as his. Sara and Jackson did have to take some extreme actions to prolong the flight. Events include the pilot dying, facing a storm, and running out of fuel. Horizon Line did have to get creative with the events that happened in the film. Whilst Adrift and Horizon Line were both set in tropical locations. The balloon ride in The Aeronauts took place over 90 minutes and the plane journey in Horizon Line was meant to be from one island to another.
Horizon Line and The Aeronauts were both told a story set over a short time frame. All three films have a male/female dynamic and a potential romance was on the cards. There are many examples like in the action genre, such as Speed and Armageddon, to more dramatic films like Gravity, Adrift, and The Aeronauts. Horizon Line was a simple premise where the writers had to think of roadblock that could be faced. This is the first time she has returned to the island since she jilted her boyfriend, Jackson (Alexander Dreymon.) This awkwardness gets pushed even further when they go on a pilot dies of a heart attack and the pair have to fly the plane. The couple tries in vain to express excitement with IQ-challenging lines such as "Hope the petrol is enough until we reach land" and "Beware so you do not fall out". He can exclaim when she with her scout mind has managed to solve another problem. When the probably 100 foreheads muscle-heavy Jackson dangles off the plane, she manages to lift him in again, with just one hand. It becomes purely fatherly when Sara also turns out to be strong as a Longstocking. This is underlined so many times that it feels like an overcompensatory act from two screenwriters who want to pat the contemporary on the head by reversing the classic gender roles. It's Sara who does not want to settle down (yes, there is aįragile love story here too), it is she who is the best.

That Sara (Allison Williams from Girls) is an enterprising woman full of integrity while Jackson (the stone pillar Alexander Dreymond from The last kingdom) is a muscular bimbo. When the goal is known - we all understand that Sara and Jackson will succeed - the road there must be so stimulating that it triggers the reptile brain, but this is far too talkative and awkward for that to happen. Which is something of an achievement in an action genre that at least usually offers easy-to-buy but entertaining excitement. This is not even turkey fun, just boring. To call an action movie clichéd, but this is beyond that. Maybe he just sold his name to the production? Well, it's probably a bread job but still… You can not find a single trace of Marcimain in Horizon Line. It's like watching Zlatan score an own goal.
